GUESTS CYNTHIA LEUNG & JENNIFER ZHANG | 4 MARCH 2021 @ 6P EST
Cynthia is a seventeen-year-old high schooler and climate organizer. She's also the CEO and co-founder of Climate Science Communication for Youth. CSCY was created as a formal mechanism to mobilize for S7341. Inspired by the organizers around her, at the age of fifteen, she went to the law books section at the Grand Army Plaza Library to research, draft, and finally propose a climate justice education bill to her state senator, who liked the proposal and decided to have it introduced into both New York State Legislatures.
Although it failed in the 2019-2020 legislative session due to COVID-19, she's been mobilizing through coalition building to ensure that this bill is passed in the next few months. Her organization hosts the Model Curricula L.A.B. Program where they promote and empower youth, particularly young women and BIPOC, to propose their own climate justice education bills in their own states. She's also the appointed Children's Focal Point for the United Nations Environment Programme's Youth Constituency. Before doing all of this work, she was a youth representative at the United Nations where she delivered a speech at the High-Level Segment of ECOSOC.
Stick around from 7 to 7:30 for dessert where we’ll be joined by Jennifer Zhang, Executive Director of #TheWorldIsWatching!!
